claire & brent | farm bar + lincoln park engagement.

I technically first met Claire and Brent last year at a wedding I photographed – Claire was a bridesmaid in her friend Brittany’s wedding, and Brent also rode along on the bus with her + their wedding party. And as much as I love when past wedding guests become my clients, I love the chance to get to know the two of them on their own as a couple even more.

And Claire and Brent made that happen in the best way – they chose their favorite restaurant, Farm Bar, as the first location of their engagement session, so the three of us met at a table on the front patio and ordered drinks. They ordered their go-to cocktails and the cheese curds they had raved about to me beforehand, and we cheersed and chatted and snacked (and real talk, the curds lived up to the hype). Midway through our time there, the manager recognized his “regulars” and swung by our table to say hi, and then as we were leaving, sent them home with a congratulatory bottle of champagne. (And honestly, how sweet is that?) Since Claire lives down the street, we dropped the champagne off at her place and grabbed an Uber to a few of their favorite spots in Lincoln Park.

We lucked out with this beautiful evening for their session – one of those quintessential days where it’s not too humid and not too cool, and so we decided to walk between a bunch of different locations in the Lincoln Park area. We had the chance to talk along the way – about our hobbies and interests, and about their wedding plans, about Chicago neighborhoods and our friends and the way Brent proposed. We ended their session on the beach while in the midst of sunset, and as I photographed them, I really just felt so lucky to have a job that can incorporate all of these incredible things our city has to offer, while photographing two really great people who happen to be in love.
