Srilaya and Matt booked this session with me within a month of their upcoming wedding date – while they knew they’d eventually have plenty of new photographs of the two of them from their big day in May, they wanted to do a session that included their pup, Duchess. As both the session and their wedding day drew closer, life and wedding planning picked up – Srilaya told me that Matt asked her why they scheduled a session so close to their wedding, and she laughed off the fact that it may not have been the most ideal time for them. After rescheduling once, we landed a date and went for it, despite their incredibly busy lives right now. The date we ended up with happened to be Duchess’ first birthday, so Srilaya picked up a ‘pupcake’ and what started as a couple-with-their-dog session ended up also becoming a dog’s-first-birthday session.
This session was extra fun for all the reasons I love impromptu sessions – it wasn’t overly planned, and didn’t include a bunch of outfits changes or extravagant locations. It was just a couple and their dog, playing and laughing and loving on each other. Our pets have a way of becoming our family members – when they’re nervous, we’re nervous, and when they behave well, we’re excited and proud. I had the chance to watch all of these moments and then some with this little family, and I’m so glad they took the time to ask me to document this period in their lives, no matter how busy it is.
