I would describe Jenni and Dan’s engagement session in a way I don’t think I’ve ever described a session before – it was serene. Sessions and weddings typically aren’t coupled with serenity, simply because there are so many other factors involved, which are awesome in their own right –nervous excitement and fun music and places to be and other people – but every so often, you get a quiet location, on a day when the people who otherwise would have been bystanders in the backgrounds of our photographs decided to stay home, with a totally chill couple and their puppy. And this, really, is all you need for a great engagement session; it’s not really about cute outfits and elaborate set ups and props, but rather, two people hanging out, who love each other’s company enough to want to spend the rest of their lives in it.
So Jenni, Dan, and Bear roamed together as I photographed, and when they decided to ditch their second outfit and stick with the first, I was all for it. We embraced the moodiness that was this overcast October afternoon, and we all got our feet wet when we made our way to the water. There were moments of quiet and calm, and moments when we laughed (most likely at Bear). It was one of those sessions where after wrapping up, I didn’t even feel as though I had just been working. And those, my friends, are the best kind.
